Debate helps you to improve your skills to communicate your ideas clearly and persuasively, to defend your points of view when discussing controversial issues, to speak in public effectively, and to work as a team. The debate club is the oldest club at FDR and our members are ranked between the best speakers in both national and international competitions.
Team Peru, with three members from the FDR Debate Club, reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Schools Debating Championship in Thailand, and won the trophy for best team with English as a second language. Peru was also crowned Pan-american champion in the Spanish division in Mexico.
OBJECTIVES: The Debate Club is oriented to provide its members with skills to succeed in their academic work and in their life such as: 1) speaking in public with confidence, 2) communicate their ideas clearly and persuasively, c) construct effective arguments to defend their points of view, 3) listen to their opponents when discussing an issue, 4) organize their ideas quickly and logically, 5) use language appropriately, 6) analyze issues critically and from different perspectives, 7) refute effectively opposed arguments, and 8) work as a team.
